16ft Welfare Unit Hire for Up to 10 Operatives

Our 16ft Welfare Unit Hire provides self-contained site welfare facilities for construction teams of up to 10 operatives. It suits medium-sized building sites, civil engineering projects, groundworks, refurbishments, utilities and long-term temporary workplaces.

This towable welfare unit gives your team a practical mess area, worktop space, hard-wired microwave and kettle, warm-water washing facilities, drying hooks and a recirculating chemical toilet. A 6kVA diesel generator powers the unit where mains electricity is not available.

Customers can order online from £245 per week and earn Site Loyal Points on qualifying hires.

Flexible Layouts for All Construction Sites

Choose from two practical layouts to suit your site setup.

The 10 Operative Mess Area Layout gives the full internal space to the mess area, with seating for up to 10 operatives. This layout works best when your team needs maximum break-time seating and welfare space.

The 8 Operative Mess Area + Site Office Layout provides mess area seating for up to 8 operatives, with a separate office area for up to 2 people. This layout works well for site managers, supervisors and projects that need welfare and workspace in one unit.

Both layouts help contractors provide essential welfare facilities without hiring separate cabins for every function.

What Does the Groundhog 16ft Welfare Unit Include?

Each 16ft Welfare Unit Hire includes practical facilities for daily construction site use:

  • Mess area with table and bench seating
  • Worktop space for food and drink preparation
  • Hard-wired microwave and kettle
  • Large stainless steel sink with warm-water tap
  • Forearm wash basin with warm-water tap
  • Recirculating chemical toilet
  • Toilet-roll holder
  • Liquid soap and paper towel dispensers
  • Cup dispenser
  • Drying hooks
  • 1kW air-blown heater
  • 240V strip light
  • 12V LED light with PIR in the chemical toilet area
  • Two socket points
  • Consumer board with RCD and MCBs
  • Carbon monoxide monitor and smoke alarm
  • High-level ventilation
  • Warm room and generator area

This makes the 16ft model a strong choice for sites that need more capacity than a 12ft welfare unit, but do not require the larger footprint of a 20ft unit.

Power, Water and Recirculating Chemical Toilet

The unit uses a 6kVA diesel generator with a generator control panel and hour-run meter. The generator powers the welfare unit’s lighting, heating, water system and hard-wired appliances.

The customer supplies and refills the diesel during the hire. The unit includes a 58-litre fuel tank, with access through the secure fuel area.

Fresh and waste water containers provide 20 litres of capacity each. The unit does not require mains water or mains drainage. Site Equip does not supply drinking water, so customers must provide drinking water separately for operatives.

The recirculating chemical toilet includes a 135-litre toilet tank and ventilation pipe. This allows the welfare unit to operate on temporary sites where fixed toilet facilities are not available.

Weekly Chemical Toilet Servicing

Weekly servicing supports the recirculating chemical toilet during the hire period. Our service team removes effluent, recharges chemicals and replenishes toilet consumables during the visit.

High-use sites may require additional servicing. Customers can arrange extra service visits where required, subject to availability and additional charges.

For teams of up to 10 operatives, we recommend reviewing usage levels at the start of the hire. This helps confirm whether weekly servicing is enough or whether the site would benefit from more frequent visits.

Groundhog and AJC Welfare Units

Our 16ft Welfare Unit Hire fleet includes trusted welfare-unit brands such as Groundhog and AJC, depending on stock and availability.

We choose each unit for construction site use, secure anti-vandal design and reliable performance on temporary worksites.

Designed to Support Construction Welfare

The 16ft groundhog welfare unit helps contractors provide essential facilities for site teams. It combines rest space, worktop facilities, warm-water washing, drying hooks and a recirculating chemical toilet within one secure mobile unit.

Construction sites need suitable welfare facilities for workers. This unit supports those requirements for medium-sized teams, but the correct setup depends on your workforce size, site layout, working hours and project type.

Larger teams may need a 20ft welfare unit, extra portable chemical toilets, additional servicing or separate site accommodation.

10 Person Welfare Unit Hire: Standard or Solar 16ft Welfare Unit?

The standard 16ft Welfare Unit Hire and Solar 16ft Welfare Unit Hire both support teams of up to 10 operatives, but they use different power systems.

OptionBest for
16ft Welfare Unit HireSites needing a lower weekly hire cost with generator-powered welfare facilities
Solar 16ft Welfare Unit HireSites looking to reduce generator runtime, fuel use and operational noise

Choose the standard 16ft unit when price, capacity and simple generator-powered operation matter most.

Choose the Solar 16ft Welfare Unit Hire when your project has fuel-reduction, noise or sustainability targets.

Delivery, Setup and Site Requirements

Site Equip delivers the 16ft welfare unit using a towing vehicle. The unit uses a hydraulic lowering system and normally takes around 15–20 minutes to deploy once it arrives on site.

Before delivery, the site must provide:

  • Flat, firm ground
  • Safe towing vehicle access
  • Clear access within approximately 3 metres of the agreed position
  • Enough room for delivery, deployment and collection
  • Ongoing access for weekly servicing

The unit must not sit on unstable, sloping or waterlogged ground. Customers must not tow or move the unit around site themselves. Please arrange any movement through Site Equip.

Order before 4pm for next working day delivery, subject to availability, location and suitable site access.

General FAQ's

Check out our general FAQ’s using the button below. These answer our customers most popular queries.

Can you deliver next day?

Yes, if ordered before 4pm.

Can the loos be positioned anywhere?

No, they need to be placed on flat firm ground within 3 metres of vehicle access. Remember our drivers are delivering in large vehicles to site so they may require a larger area for manoeuvring. We will do our best to position them exactly where you’d like but we will need access to service.

Need your toilet delivered to a specific location?

Provide us with a what3words and a site contact and we will deliver to your exact desired location.

Where do you deliver to?

We can hire our range of equipment across London & South England.

We used Site Equip Ltd recently and we were impressed by the professional service from your company and team . I would like to give one off your colleague a shout out a very professional and friendly, gentleman called sam ! ( I think he has autism not sure tho) i think the floor staff are amazing and wonderful at there jobs and should be giving more credit than they are giving!!! Could you please let sam know abt this review please and thank you.

Have had a spate of poor service delivery, and most recently a toilet was delivered and not serviced until it had been on site for a month. Requested a reduction in the hire costs as toilet was unusable. After many broken promises of returned calls and emails and much chasing on my part we were given a 1.5 week credit for which we are grateful. However I was alarmed reading the transport managers response "As set out in our Terms and Conditions, the Weekly Toilet Service is provided on a reasonable endeavours basis and is a free, no-obligation service. The Terms also state that the Weekly Toilet Service is not of the essence of the Contract, and that no reduction in hire charges is normally offered should a weekly service be missed." Seriously....Site Equip missed 3 consecutive weeks...would you want to use the toilet?
Review from Trustpilot
It’s been an absolute nightmare. My builders ordered a portaloo since I didn’t have a toilet. They came to clean it ONCE over 6 weeks (they promise weekly cleaning) and we asked to remove because it’s smelly and dirty and there are flies circling around it and they can’t give us a date. I’ve also reported to my local council environmental health and I’ll have to pursue with them. With this heat this is totally unacceptable !
Review from Google
The stuff nightmares are made of - they only came to clean the portaloo once over 6 weeks. We asked to collect because flies are around but it’s impossible to speak to someone in their “transport team”. Reported to the council environmental health too, it’s smelly and there are flies and I’m horrified. Please don’t use them !

A totally frustrating experience for us after Site Equip bought out Jimmy Riddles (who were great.) You never know if they are going to turn up - having a toilet that has no loo roll and stinks for a bunch of female employees is no joke. It has come to the point where I am having to ring up weekly to see if they will be coming. This week on Thursday (18th June 2026) customer services said the driver had two more stops before us and felt sure they would make it before 5pm when they finished, but if they didn't make it would schedule them in for Friday. On Friday morning I rang again as they hadn't made it - spoke to a different customer service representative who said it hadn't been scheduled for Friday and they would make sure it was serviced but it would be later in the day. Nobody showed up. This leaves me with yet another phone call on Monday morning, so time consuming when you are running your own business, with the hope of having it serviced on Tuesday 23rd June - which is twelve days since it was last serviced on 11th June. Why do customer services lie- its so bad for business. Incidentally I have never left a bad review on Trustpilot for anything - life is generally too short, but it is really getting my staff down now.
